Japan Corporate Data Guide
1. Corporate Number System
In Japan, every registered entity is assigned a 13-digit Corporate Number by the National Tax Agency. This unique identifier is used for administrative purposes, tax filings, and social security.
- Public Nature: Unlike individual "My Number" (Social Security) IDs, Corporate Numbers are public and searchable.
- Permanence: The number remains with the entity throughout its lifecycle, including changes in name or address.
- Reliability: It is the most reliable way to identify a Japanese business entity for global compliance and due diligence.
2. Japan Industry Guide
Our platform uses the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) for Japan, often grouped into 33 major categories by the Tokyo Stock Exchange (JPX).
Tip: Japanese industry classifications may differ slightly from GICS or NACE standards. For example, "Information & Communication" often encompasses both Software/IT Services and Telecommunications.
We provide rankings and browsing capabilities across all 33 JPX industry sectors, allowing users to analyze the market structure of Japan's economy.
